Canadian Heroes

For those who may not know, the Canadian veterans who visit Korea each year have their airfares paid for at 50% by the Korean Government and any caregiver that accompanies them at 30%. All expenses in Korea are free and paid for by the Government of Korea. Canadian veterans are provided this benefit once every five years if they want to return a second time.

Since 1975, the Korean Government has assisted with the airfare or more than 30,000 Korean War veterans.

“A Royal Canadian Navy sailor died Monday while off-duty in Tanzania on leave from his ship, HMCS Regina, during a mission in the Indian Ocean.

The crewman died in a Tanzanian hospital but the Canadian Forces said in a press release that “the circumstances surrounding this death are unknown at this time.””

34 Canadian Veterans are in Korea now.

Canada, as a nation, owes an everlasting debt of gratitude to those young men and women who, in the prime of their youth, have served and continue to serve their country to preserve global peace and protect fundamental human rights. Many made the ultimate sacrifice, and lie buried in countries far from their homes and loved ones. Many have returned from service with injuries to body and mind that they must carry with them for the rest of their lives. The names of 516 Canadians who died in service during the conflict are inscribed in the Books of Remembrance located in the Peace Tower in Ottawa. 378 Canadians are officially buried in Korea. …read more
