Vimy Ridge Day

Today, we honour Vimy Ridge Day.
On April 9, 1917, Canadian forces launched an assault on Vimy Ridge in northern France — a battle that would become one of the most defining moments in our nation’s history.
For the first time, all four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought together as a united force. Against tremendous odds, they captured the heavily fortified ridge — something previous Allied attempts had failed to do.
But victory came at a great cost.
More than 3,500 Canadians were killed and over 7,000 were wounded in just four days of fighting.
Vimy Ridge was not just a military triumph; it was a moment that forged Canada’s national identity and earned our country a new level of respect on the world stage.
Today, we remember the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of those who fought — and those who never came home. Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we cherish.
We will remember them
