The forgotten soldier

Years ago I coined the phrase ” If we don’t take care of our Veterans then we have failed as a Nation…”

But what happens if we also forget those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice and are buried in the 76 Countries around the world?

” Op Canadian Heroes” was formed to place flags on the fallen heroes world-wide and the results are amazing, and somewhat concerning at the same time.

This is were it gets interesting.

I have personally witnessed finding soldiers grave markers that were basically buried under inches of earth, so much so, that it was clearly evident that nobody has been by to visit this soldier in decades.

I mean years and years, not months but years, decades in fact.

The markers were so overgrown with earth that the stones we uncovered looked basically brand new, hidden from years of the weather.

In some cases we found dozens this way, it was really unbelievable to say the least.

In one case we found a soldier that we literally tripped over, his stone sunk in the ground, our foot sunk onto his headstone, and then we discovered it buried inches under the soil his marker.

Uncovering the earth we read who he was, were he was killed and his unit.

We even notified his unit in Canada to let them know, they had no clue.

In England Chris Graves found one of soldiers named Richard Nixon, I kid you not!

His marker was covered over with earth, even the church on their website was asking for help to know and learn more about him.

Somewhere, there is a relation, a cousin, nephews, nieces, family members.

Would it not be great that sometime they are brought together.

It is probably one of the most important things to come out of this project.

I want to thank everyone that has come aboard so far, your efforts and the meaning for our Country and the family members is appreciated.
