Some spirited discussion I heard about our 100,000 flags that we are buying and donating to Canadians to take overseas to honour our war dead. The flags are made in Canada and are a paper flag. I choose paper for two reasons, the first being that nobody would have to be concerned with going back and ensuring that a proper flag retirement ceremony be performed once the flag became tattered and torn, the flags will become part of the soil in short course. The second obviously is the cost, this will cost a minimum of about $25,000.00 compared to over $100k for a plastic and fabric flag. At the end of the day though Canadians can purchase any flag they choose to take with them, after all you are spending your own money for the flight, so you can choose whatever type of flag that you want.
