Through those hearts
Who heard a breaking branch
Breaking in the wilds
From a province filled with rednecks
Who
Rarely take the time
The while
The time it takes to slow down
Feel the pain a nation feels
For sons, for daughters
Who stood for all
In a world for right
For good
The youth who step to the call
Defend a nation founded on
The voice of those who went before
And passed their torch along
To hold the faith in brotherhood
To defend a world going wrong
From those who would
Rule a world in terror
If left alone, they could
Oh Lord you passed a special gift
Of thought, of vision, in poem
To a broken old bushed redneck who
Put forth poems for those he could
Those who paid the greatest price
For a nation, for a world
So others would reap a better life
Than what for them, could be unfurled
My heart has been that breaking branch
Hopefully heard around a world
To be passed along
To those who care
For those little boys and girls
Who see no future
See no gate to open a new door
A doorway to a better life
Without those who stand beside
Protect and guard, protect the path
To freedoms opening gate
Allow a future to be shown
To those who have that faith
To those who reach to take a hand
Passed in courage and goodwill
Into the turmoil where they are found
That surrounds their daily world
If you have heard the breaking branch
Please pass the sound along
For those who stood and gave their all
A world not to go wrong
