The title of this post says it all, but may leave you questioning it as well, if so then that is a good thing.
We are leading up to Canada Day, and people are starting to show their love of Country by displaying Canadian Flags around their properties and on their vehicles.
At times we are outnumbered by other countries flags being flown as the soccer games are currently underway, that’s fine just take them down after the games please.
With the United Kingdom voting to leave the EU, and the lead up to the elections in the United States, there is a common theme developing in many countries with ultra right leaning parties and or views emerging and growing in power.
Never before has it been more important that we as a nation sit up straight and take notice on what is happening around the world.
I have been following the Democratic and Republican candidates south of the border and never before have I witnessed so many learned individuals throw their hands up in disgust and disbelief when commenting on what Donald Trump is doing and his messaging.
Last night I listened to Carl Bernstein on CNN, and he made a comment that Donald Trump’s messaging is basically Neo-Facism without the Nazism. Strong and powerful comments coming from a person that the world knows for his investigative talents.
When one takes a look around the world at different countries and what is happening it is easy to see a trend not just happening…but growing.
Each and every Canadian can do themselves a world of good by learning from history, and educate themselves. Education on this subject is the best thing we can all do.
Hate crimes are on the rise in certain parts, and here in Canada we have not been immune to them either.
Canada is a great Country and in my view the best and each year we score highly with bodies that study subjects on ” what makes a Country great..”
BUT, dont take this for granted, a great Country is a work in progress, its extremely important that we as a people and a nation do not follow down the path of ultra right-wing thinking, we need to embrace our multiculturalism and build upon it, not destroy it.
So this Canada Day fly our flag high and proud, be thankful that you live in the best Country in the world, but don’t take it for granted, we all together have a duty and responsibility to keep this nation, its ideals, views and people strong.
