City of Montreal to strip Vimy Park of its name

Just as we are ready to open a new park in the City of Hamilton named after a fallen soldier that died in Afghanistan, the City of Montreal has voted unanimously to strip Vimy Park of its name and rename the park after Jacques Parizeau.

What can only be described as an act of treason against Canada, Canadians need to be made aware of this traitorous act by the entire City council and people that are behind this politically motivated idea.

This is without a doubt one of the lowest points this Country has ever hit, when we re-name a park that defined Canada as a nation.

I lost a cousin at Vimy, its important that we together as Canadians understand that the enemy is not just abroad, we have enemies at home on our own soil as well.

Not only do we need to stop this, but we need to enact Federal legislation across Canada that would make it illegal to ever try something like this ever again.

We are also looking into the possibility of going to Court Monday to try to stop this from proceeding.

We have also asked the Prime Minister to immediately get involved and prevent this from happening.

Even the Widow of Jacques Parizeau said  “We were not consulted on this, we did not request it, and our family knew nothing about this.”

“I called the mayor of Outremont to say I did not like all this controversy, and her chief of staff said the historical society made the application.”

Lapointe said she doubted her late husband, who was a fan of history, would have wanted to be honoured in such a controversial manner.

“He always had an enormous respect for this large victory of the Canadian military in 1917,” said Lapointe.
