Breaking The Silence

Breaking The Silence

A great announcement from our friends at The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, please read below:

Recently, the media has begun covering the reports of Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS and Military members who, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Operational Stress Injury; have chosen to make the ultimate sacrifice and end their lives. It can be easy to judge – to associate blame – to comment without knowing the pain and struggle these responders have suffered through, many times their bodies catching up to where their minds may have already gone. Sometimes, it is just the breaking point that comes too quickly too soon.

It is our job to protect the citizens of Ontario and Canada – including our selves. If you are struggling, if you see someone struggling, get help. Right away. There is no embarrassment in asking for and receiving help given the sights, smells and sounds that we see in an almost daily work environment. We are all tough by nature, but tough doesn’t mean bulletproof and doesn’t mean that you can’t stumble.

The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund last year announced a new defibrillator donation program, small in nature, to run concurrent to the mainstream donation program that has already seen 34 defibs to the public. We are proud to announce that the Breaking The Silence Program will be started this month. It is with a heavy heart that we will be donating defibrillators in the name of Law Enforcement, Corrections, Fire, EMS, Dispatch and Military persons who have been killed due to PTSD and OSI – but we wish to honour those men and women who will never bear a name on a wall – yet will never ever be forgotten.
