we would like to honour Pte. Fred Jones, WW2 veteran, Ojibway, from Neyaashiinigmiing (Bruce Peninsula) passed away this morning July 8, 2014 just shy of his 100th birthday. His mind was sharp right up to the end and always taked of his comrades, some of whom were family and friends. Cape Croker (Neyaashiinigmiing as it is known in the Ojibway language) has the highest per-capita enlisted during the Great Wars during a time when First Nations were not even recognized as ‘citizens’ of Canada.
Viewing is Friday July 11th, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Cape Croker Community Centre and internment at the Cape Croker Cemetary 11:00 am. The sacred fire has been lit.
